Utopian Dreams

PROJECT BRIEF

The year is 2030.
A series of devastating natural disasters around the world has led to a societal breakdown, resulting in war, famine, and disease.
A group of people reached Melbourne for safety and occupied Lincoln Square. Caught between the ongoing wars and a world unwilling to welcome them, this group starts to build their lives based on human connection and, in small ways, find joy in unlikely places.
Like many governments anxious about new arrivals, the local government wants the people in the Square to refrain from taking local jobs. And so, all formal work is forbidden. Most of the Square’s economy is informal, called the grey economy.

CLIENT/ TARGET AUDIENCES OF THE PROJECTS:

Greyhound is 30 years old and is an important figure in the community. With his striking height and imposing athletic figure, he led the organization of all trades and the grey economy established within the community. Whilst he appears strong, he's emotionally vulnerable and constantly worries about the future of their community.

Tackling with the dystopian: seasonal drought

In the serene stillness of Greyhound’s world, he traversed a desolate landscape burdened by the weight of his relentless future fears. The ground beneath his feet mirrored his worries, a market sunken into despair, where economic exchange seemed a distant memory. But a glimmer of solace emerged amid the suffocating grip of seasonal drought and scorching heat waves. At the heart of this arid realm stood a water fountain, its crystal-clear streams offering a sip of respite. Within it, a wish tree adorned with hopeful offerings bore testament to the enduring spirit of humankind. In this Utopian oasis, “Hope” was the currency that held the landscape together, briefly soothing Greyhound’s ceaseless anxieties and bringing him new opportunities.
